Finding Paragraphs #1

Lions litters usually consist of two or three cubs that weigh about 3 pounds each. Some mothers nurture the young; others sometimes neglect or abandon them, especially when food is scarce. Usually two or more females in a pride give birth about the same time, and the cubs are raised together. A lioness will permit cubs other than her own to suckle, sometimes enabling a neglected infant to survive. They are capable of hunting by 2 years of age, lions become fully grown between 5 and 6 years and they normally live about 13 years.

Quote, Paraphrase, and Citation #5

"Zebras, horses and wild asses are all equids, long-lived animals that move quickly for their large size and have teeth built for grinding and cropping grass. Zebras have horse like bodies, but their manes are made of short, erect hair, their tails are tufted at the tip and their coats are striped."

Janssen, Paul. "Zebra." Out to Africa. African Wildlife Foundation. Web. http://www.outtoafrica.nl/animals/engzebra.html?zenden=2&subsoort_id=1&bestemming_id=1.

I think that there are similarities and differences of a Zebra, a Horse, and wild asses. Like a Zebra has the shape of a horse but the size of wild asses. And a Zebras mane is like a horse, texture wise, but lenth no. Wild asses and Zebras have the most simularities, but that my opinion.

Quote, Paraphrase, and Citation #4

"Thou shalt not kill any living thing, for life is given to all by God, and that which God hath given, let not man taketh it away".

I agree and disagree with this quote. The reason I agree is because I don't the fact that we as humans kill animals. My reason to disagree is because we have to kill some animals in order for us to be able to eat.

Graph/ chart/ map and citation

This chart show the average speed of some of the safari animal. This information is just interesting, not nesacerilly important. It shows the mph of the human, giraffe, rabbit, zebra, coyote, lion, and the cheetah.

Quote, Paraphrase, and Citation #3

"Female cheetahs typically have a litter of three cubs and live with them for one and a half to two years. Young cubs spend their first year learning from their mother and practicing hunting techniques with playful games. Male cheetahs live alone or in small groups, often with their litter mates".

But between 1976 and 1987, the total population of Elephants in Africa fell dramatically from about 3 million animals to fewer than 700,000 elephants. Adult elephants have no natural predators. This rapid decline was mainly as a result of we humans who killed elephants for their ivory or maybe because they threatened our crops or property.

As a result of it’s decline, the African elephant is classified in The Red Data book as ‘vulnerable to extinction’. Scientists predicted that the ivory trade continued undebated, the elephants would become extinct in about 20 years or so. :(

So, in response to this threat, some countries agreed a worldwide ban on the ivory trade in 1989. Today, there are about 600,000 African elephants remaining in the wild.

Quote, Paraphrase, and citation #2

"Species and the ecosystems they are part of provide essential goods and services that make human life possible and contribute enormously to our health and well-being — breathable air, clean water, food, fibers, building materials, medicines, energy, fertile soils, climate regulation, transport, and recreational and spiritual values".
"Protecting the Future of Nature." World Wildlife Fund. World Wildlife Fund, 2011. Web. 11 Feb. 2011. http://www.worldwildlife.org/species/.

I think people should be considerate about nature. People could help so mush if they just stopped littering. If everyone tried, we could all make a difference.

Giant pandas have low reproductive rates, and because they eat mostly certain species of bamboo, they are restricted to a diminishing geographic area in central China. There are an estimated 1,600 left in the wild. This is just one of the safari animals that are endangered.

What I want to know about my topic

There are many things I want to know about my topic:
  • What animals are endangered? And why?
  • What animals are extinct? And why?
  • How many baby animals are born a year?
  • What are their ways of survival?
  • How do they get access to water?

What I already know

Well I really don't know much about the animals. That's another reason I chose this topic. I want to know about the animals... I know that there are many danger hazards in their habitat. Some animal are barely surviving due to there not being enough water. Some animals fight til death for food. They're all doing what it takes to survive. Most animals are hunted by poachers, not to mention that makes the animal endangered.

The story behind my topic choice: Safari Animal

I chose Safari animals because it's something that has alway had my attention. The reason I chose the catagory "Safari" is because it deals with one of my favorite animals, the giraffe. Also I think that the way of their living habitats are interesting. I know could not stay in the wild and be able to still be alive. It's their way of life, I want to learn it.
I also want to know about many other things about them. Even the extinct ones, I want to know why they're gone. I want to know what animals are endangered and what's the reasoning behind it. Is is the preys and predators what cause's it? The people? Or the dieseases? I plan to find out what go on out there.
